What is Neti Pot?

An ancient Indian process of cleansing the sinuses and nasal pathways is known as Neti.
When this is done with water, it is known as jal neti, when done with a piece of string, sutra neti and when done with a catheter it is known as dand neti.

Jal Neti is practiced by many people around the world and is also known as nasal irrigation. The procedure mainly consists of passing warm saline water through one nostril and out the other. This clears the sinuses and nasal passages of old and infected mucous, one breathes freely and the body gets a chance to start healing itself.

Neti Pot also known as Netti Pot as shown in the pictures on this page is used to  pour the saline solution through the nostrils.

One bends over a sink, tilts one's head to one side and pours the warm saline water through the top nostril, it comes out the bottom one along with any mucous and other particulates present in the nasal passages.

All the time, breathing through the mouth.

When this is done, one exhales without pinching the nose to get any remaining water out.

Repeat while tilting the head to the other side and pouring the water down the other nostril which is now on top.

This procedure is very effective in the management of chronic sinusitis. Hay fever, allergies, asthma, colds and cough benefit immensely from the use of the Neti Pot, enabling the user to breathe freely and maintaining clean and bacteria free environment in the nasal passages.
